Hopefully, your fantasy football season is not already in shambles. With the injuries that have piled up through the first three weeks, it would not be crazy for fantasy football managers to already be scrambling. Luckily, there is always a viable play in the free-agent pool, even on a Sunday morning. It may not be pretty, it may leave you hanging on the edge of your seat come kickoff, but the best managers find a way. Good thing The Lateral is here to help.

Week 4 Sunday Preview

Key Player Updates

I had been offering player updates but as of Week 3 of the 2021 season, I stopped. The main reason is, you should just download Sleeper and Fantasy Life for your player updates and breaking news. But when I say and, I mean it. You need both. Do that, and you will definitely have an edge over your league-mates. Fail to do that, and you will definitely get left behind.

Top Waiver Players Available

Last week I said that Zach Wilson (New York Jets) was in line for a good game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4. Wilson has played poorly, but Tennessee's defense is still bad, so Wilson should still be an option. Meanwhile, Taylor Heinicke (Washington Football Team), has been playing well and has an excellent matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. So he may be the best option widely available. Finally, Sam Darnold (Carolina Panthers) has been playing like a top-12 quarterback and Dallas is not a terrifying matchup this Sunday.

Running Back

With James White out for the season, someone is going to step up in the New England Patriots backfield. I have largely been touting J.J Taylor (New England Patriots), however, Rhamondre Stevenson (New England Patriots) could ultimately be the one to take over. If you are really desperate, Kyle Juszczyk (San Francisco 49ers) had a good week in Week 3, and if Trey Sermon continues to struggle, Juszczyk could continue to be relevant as long as Elijah Mitchell is out.

Wide Receiver

The Lateral contributor Zach Crutcher says both Emmanuel Sanders (Buffalo Bills) and Terrace Marshall Jr. (Carolina Panthers) are great matchup-dependent plays this week. Meanwhile, Hunter Renfrow (Las Vegas Raiders) has been a consistent WR3/FLEX and is still widely available. Finally, Quintez Cephus (Detroit Lions) and Kalif Raymond (Detroit Lions) could be viable desperation plays. Cephus looked like the leader going into Week 3, but Raymond came out of nowhere and could be taking over this wide receiver group. Ultimately, the lead wide receiver in the Lions' offense will be relevant to fantasy football managers, so picking the correct one early could be a big win.

Tight End

I have been saying to grab Pat Freiermuth (Pittsburgh Steelers) for weeks, and today is no exception. Tyler Conklin (Minnesota Vikings) is also a viable tight end going forward if he maintains his target share.

Defense/Special Teams

Defense/special teams is a bit rough this week, but the New York Giants could be a good play depending on which version of New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston shows up today. If they are still available, the Carolina Panthers could be a solid play against the Dallas Cowboys as well. There really is not a smash play off of waivers this week.

Randy Bullock (Tennessee Titans) could have a busy day in a matchup of two bad defenses against the New York Jets. Rodrigo Blankenship (Indianapolis Colts) has been consistent the past two weeks and I am projecting that consistency again in Week 4. Finally, Nick Folk (New England Patriots) has been the most consistent kicker of any kicker still on the majority of waiver pools, with zero weeks outside the top-12 at the position.
